Why Tech@NYU
I wanted to find a community within tech and when looking for clubs to join Tech Treks seemed like a great opportunity for me to learn more about what I want to do and also develop my own skills. As I’ve gotten deeper into tech@nyu I’ve realized that the community here is really amazing, full of supportive, giving, and kind people who want to see you succeed. Now, being able to help new cohorts of Tech Treks has given me even greater reason to be in tech@nyu. I love talking to people about development and helping them to realize what they care about.
What do you do for in program members?
In Tech Treks, us leads are there to guide you through a semester-long project and along the way we provide countless resources for the members. From weekly workshops to office tours we design the program to teach you what you want to learn and kickstart you in the tech industry. If you have any questions we are happy to help and my favorite part of being a lead is being able to solve problems for our cohort!
What do you do outside of work/school?
I spend a lot of time thinking about and watching basketball. I’m a huge Timberwolves fan and I watch as many games as I can. I go to the Nets vs. Timberwolves game every year and it’s a great way for me to get a taste of back home.
Advice to your younger self
Realize that people who know you (in any way at all) are more willing to help you than a random recruiter. A lot of young tech people I talk to seem nervous to take advantage of personal relationships and expect to get opportunities from cold applying. Remember to use all of your advantages and don’t be shy.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I want to work on software which is used by people every day and makes their lives better. From my internship experience the most rewarding feeling has been making something which my coworkers want to use because it makes their job easier. Being able to do this on a large scale which helps many more people across the world is really exciting to me!
