Pope is a Computer Science student at NYU interested in the research side of tech, particularly around AI, policy, and education. Outside of school, you can usually find him on a hike, at a concert, or playing Teamfight Tactics.

Why tech@nyu?
Coming from the Philippines, where there isn’t a strong tech culture, Tech@NYU became the bridge I needed to immerse myself in the tech scene and explore paths beyond the stereotypical PM and SWE roles. Through these events, I’ve met so many people who shaped my perspective, which is why I want to give back and recreate the same experiences for others.
Favorite tech@nyu event of all time?
The Databricks office tour and panel was one of the most memorable events for me, as it was my first time stepping into a real tech office in NYC. I had early access as a General Techie that semester, which gave me early access to signing up as well. Seeing the wide range of roles and hearing about everyone’s unique paths at Databricks was incredibly eye-opening.
What do you do outside of work?
When I do have free time, it’s usually spent hiking, going to concerts, hunting for cheap eats, or playing video games. I don’t always get to do everything, but it really depends on who I’m with and what we feel like doing. Seeing Joon live was probably one of my favorite concert memories.
Advice to your younger self?
It’s okay not knowing what you want to do yet! I originally applied to NYU for Economics, but I decided I wanted to major in Computer Science at the last minute, even though I had zero coding experience.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I definitely want to do research in the future, either in academia or industry as an applied scientist. I’m not totally sure on the specifics yet, but I’m excited to explore different areas and see what resonates with me the most.
