Announcing Engineering Leads
We've grown to a point where under our budget, we need better tooling to supercharge our club's operations, and we believe its time to allocate a role purpose built for it.

The ideas of the engineering lead have long existed with the club since 2009, with occassional "webmasters" taking on the role adhoc from 2009 - 2016, focusing on our websites and various public calendars. We didn't see such a need post-covid, with our engineering needs largely staying the same and us having largely the same legacy codebases we can work off.
However since 2025 when we launched our buildathon series, we started getting the needs for workflows and management portals to manage the large application inbound and other logistics needs for the club. We initially thought that old tools were good enough, however under a desire to be rather lean compared to other hackathons to enable the hiring component, we've come to realize that we as a club need it not just for the hackathon but a broader initiatives to be more efficient and let us serve the community better.
Introducing our engineering leads, a small group of fast moving ICs selected to drive forward our internal tooling. We already have a list of various projects that they'll have to manage:
- Building out a new hackathon application management portal
- Developing a robust judging portal to handle not just the live judging experience but the participant experience after
- Club productivity suites and agents to automate monotonous tasks.
- Knowledge graphs to ensure we don't lose hard earned skills and insights to host better events.
Given how we've structured the role to become owners of actual products, we had to change up how we interview potential candidates, transitioning from a basic behavioral used for most entry level eboard roles to involve a pre-assessment into technical into behavioral style pipeline. We understand that this may take more of the applicant, but since these tools will underpin our ability to continue hosting our hacks and various initiatives, we hope participants get excited through the process and show us their agency in building.
We look forward to connecting to program alumni and new applicants looking for a chance to build things people want, and we encourage you to apply to our roles @ techatnyu.org/apply.
